Amazing Resources On SEO – Getting This Done The Wikipedia Way

Wikipedia is truly one of the greatest resources on the web. It’s crowd sourced and uses the collective brainpower of millions of people to help to educate others. In short, this is exactly the kind of site that Google should be madly in love with, isn’t it? After all, Google is only interested in educating people and providing them with the information that is, as a consequence of the power of social proof, the most trusted.

You might imagine that Google displays a Wikipedia page at the top of virtually every search result you could conduct – or so it seems – because they truly do love Wikipedia. However, technically we can look at this in a different light. We can certainly learn some lessons from the dominance of Wikipedia in the search engine result pages by looking at their internal linking strategies.

Wikipedia itself is very highly dependent on keywords. Go to any particular page on that site and see how many links that there are to other pages within their own site. This, as it turns out, is very powerful search engine marketing. If you show the search engine that you are linking to information on a specific keyword by using keyword rich links – or anchor text – then you are checking all the right boxes. Indeed, internal linking has been shown to be almost as important as external linking. Yet, many people tend to gloss over this when they are engaged in SEO UK activities.

While Wikipedia may be summarily concerned with giving you, the reader, as much information as possible and linking you to as much related information as they can, a side effect is that it gives them a massive advantage in terms of SEO.

While Google does look at anchor text from an external site to another site as being a clear indication of relevance in relation to that included keyword, it can also apply this philosophy to your internal linking structure. Be creative and be selective when you create an internal link. Where you have content in the form of articles, highlight some important keywords within those articles and link them to other pages on your site.

Use one of those proprietary services to analyse a particular page – any page – on the Wikipedia site. At one time you would be able to use Yahoo’s Site Explorer with some assurance, but these days the information contained therein is much less relevant, simply because Yahoo and Bing are not putting as much emphasis to the maintenance of this free service. However, when you do analyse the back links to a page on the big W, you will undoubtedly see that very many of those links are keyword rich and are pointing to that page from other pages within Wikipedia’s site itself.

With any luck, if you target your current UK SEO after that, this document will present you with an idea of just how crucial it can be for you to do internal, keyword and key phrase rich backlinking. Should you do it properly, it’s going to inevitably be the reason for a lot of your own ranking “juice.”
