Article Marketing Alive and Well
Due to the last Google update, the buzz in the forums is article marketing is on its way out. Of course, this couldn’t be further from the truth. The only thing on the way out is poor, spun, garbage content.
Article marketing is still the number 1 tool in my arsenal to SEO new and aged sites. Simply, I do not endlessly spin content and all of the articles I write are readable. Considering my website ranks improved after the latest Google update, it is no mystery that Google knows the difference between bad quality and good quality.
Article marketing is not easy and is frankly extremely hard. Many people throw together poorly written articles or outsource to someone that doesn’t have a third grade education. They take the articles spin them, and submit them to thousands of article directories. From there they have the sad, lonely story of waiting to be paid off by clickbank.
Of course, you will not do to well if you outsource the writing to someone that doesn’t write well. I firmly believe Google picks up on poorly written articles and does not give them much weight. If you could sign up for a single $100 per month service, pay $30 for all of your content and rank #1 for a competitive keyword – Don’t you think everyone would be ranked #1?
The good news is, Google has effectively made my job quite a bit easier. Most of my spinner friends are no longer competitors in many of my niches. Several of my sites went from #6-8, to #1-2 within a week of the Panda update. The only people that are in front of me are people that are better SEO guys than I am or authority sites.
You can choose to go after many easy niches and keywords or focus on just a handful of sites. Either way the results should be great if you’re willing to work hard at it. You should plan on spending every single day writing content for your sites or content to gain backlinks. Both strategies work well and you should choose whatever you’re most comfortable with.
The best advice I can give you is to decide which way you want to go upfront. I personally like to pick sites that have huge potential and devote several hours per week at SEO. However, I already have several smaller websites that pay my bills so if it takes years for the larger sites to payoff it is perfectly okay with me.
The other side is to find a niche with 50-100 medium to hard keywords and plan on doing all of the above every single day until the end of time. This will ensure your site gets to the top and stays there. Of course, one single website may be worth more than 100 smaller ones in the long term. The only downside to this strategy is it can often take months or years to reach the top.
Either way you choose, just remember the golden rule – Work in equal’s money out!
