Do You Know Everything About Social Media?

Social media may be the hottest and fastest growing appearance on the internet – just think about Facebook, having more than 500 million users as well as Twitter at the moment has more than hundred and ninety million users. These numbers pretty much show precisely how well-known these social services really are. The internet has become the biggest medium when it comes to spreading this news as well as for advertising. There’s a very good reason why the internet marketing and advertising industry has been growing immensely the past few years.

But now that social media sites, also known as web 2 . 0, are becoming more and more popular, I as a web marketer start asking myself the question just how I will take advantage of this. I mean, there are more than five hundred million people I can reach for my vintage electric guitars website when utilizing social networking! That’s definitely more than worthwhile don’t you think? There is just one tiny difficulty…

Social networking wasn’t developed to use it as an advertising and marketing channel. You can test it I suppose but believe me – in case you try and work with it to directly sell to individuals, you’re going to get an issue quite soon, because people simply can’t stand it and I can understand why. Imagine you’re sitting in your living room, chatting to a couple of your pals. All of a sudden, a salesperson simply walks in and starts off selling his stuff to both you and your friends. How would you react? I suppose you’d kick him out (I would). Now that is what happens to marketers which are too aggressively using social networking sites to market their products.

Soon after realizing this I was initially rather unhappy, because I needed to somehow interact with those 500 million people out there. Obviously there is the choice of placing advertisements, but I’ve never been a huge friend of that, it just isn’t the way I work. So, I thought, why don’t you do precisely what the social sites want me to try and do? Construct positive and constructive relationships with individuals. I am talking about, why wouldn’t people really like me as being a company and wish a friendship with me, though it may only be a shallow one?

So, I started out making friends on Twitter by following those individuals I thought were interesting. Obviously simultaneously, I tweeted as much intriquing, notable and appealing stuff as possible, hoping to attract other people to follow me. Simply because Twitter without having followers is like broadcasting an advertisement on a radio-station no-one listens to anyhow or optimizing a website for any keyword that no one has searched for within the last ten years. It would be just a waste of time. Now even though it took some time, eventually I got more and more successful with my tweeting.

And so i hope that now you can begin to see the worth of social networking sites – there really is quite a bit of traffic you are missing if you aren’t using it at all. I mean, more than 500 million people!
