Timber drying and restoration. How is it done?

Flooding on timber floors can cause cupping and bowing in the floor when they are flooded. Some cleaning companies may just place a fan on the timber floor to dry it but the reality is this may not fix the problem. To help restore flooded wood an injectidry drying system may need to be utilised.

Basically the way the injectidry works is vacuum plates are placed on the floor to take out any extra moisture. Usually it will take as long as 2 to 3 days to completely dry out the floor. A dehumidifier is also placed in the centre of the room to take the moisture that has been pushed into the air by the injectidry.

It is important to note that many timber floors these days are floating timber floors that have been mounted on top of a concrete floor. In these situations it may not be worth attempting to dry the floor since water can get stuck beneath the floor. In this case it may be not possible to draw out the water with the Injectidry.

It is important to note this system is usually used in large timber floor areas that are expensive to replace. It depends on which restoration company is contracted but usually it will cost close to $400 to hire per day which is can be more economical than replacement. Having said this, the wood floors may need to be resealed and re-sanded. Therefore it may be important to conduct a cost benefit analysis to see whether it is worth your while to dry it out.

Having said this, sometimes the floor will dry naturally but it is important to ensure you engage the services of a qualified water damage restoration professional to inspect the damage. We only recommend using the injectidry system when it is worth the money. Only a trusted water damage company can offer this advice.
