Too Many Firms In The Area Do Not Wring The Best From Their Website Asset Because Their Clients Don’t Know It Is There
I’ve spent the last few hours today visiting and reading the websites for firms in a circle of 1 mile from where I sit to study how many of them have some sort of online promotion, either in the form of ad-words or search engine optimisation and I haven’t discovered any yet. This gratifies and upsets me.
It pleases me since, as someone operating an affordable SEO company, I obviously look out upon a target rich environment. It upsets me since if I can only collaborate with a small number who view their website as a crucial section of their trading, there are a number who are simply never going to reach prospective customers, and could just as well have not used their money on a website at all. And the expenditure may not have been well spent anyway because I have inspected and it seems that if they have used a software consultancy to produce their site and maybe host and support it for them, the sites are not even indexed with the search engines so the probability of someone using keywords to find the site are virtually nil.
One of the most basic procedures of search engine optimisation is to ensure that the website that is being promoted is catalogued with all the largest search engines, and I would advise anyone, even if they are not having specialist search engine optimisation supporting and promoting their site, to make sure they do that. It is very simple and they should also be certain that their software consultancy creates a sitemap to upload in the registry so that the search engines can at least look at the site and familiarise themselves with all pages and the describing keywords.
If we think of a firm’s website we can view it as falling into one of two categories. Either it provides a commercial arm to the business in that it makes sales or can be used for prospective clients to visit prior to contacting the company with a view to doing business or registering an intention. The other category is 1 that is only for informational or ‘read-only’ reasons and maybe offers a news service but is not an important dimension of the work of the business.
If the firms falls in any way outside the second category, then some kind of internet promotion is crucial since from some of the sites that I have investigated today, there is nothing wrong with the business or the website but they come nowhere in comparison to their local competitors which is found by the search engines by using some of the keywords used by the website. That is ridiculous and by employing an affordable SEO company to push their site up the results pages they will be more likely to get trade as a result of their website than they currently do. They do not even need to use me to do it, though obviously I’d be please if they did, but from the vantage point of the local economy it would be better to maximise their website which is, at the end of the day, a business asset. For God’s sake use it!
It could be that they just don’t know how and regard it as an expensive mistake if no one goes to them via the internet. What I believe they don’t appreciate is that nobody is going to discover a site by coincidence, it must be pushed and search engine optimisation would be the way I would advise it gets done.
